Autumn Term 2024: Organise candidate assessments for access arrangements.
Access arrangements are reasonable adjustments, as defined by the Equality Act (2010), and are specific to an individual candidate. They allow candidates with special educational needs, disabilities, or temporary injuries to access assessments without changing the demands of the assessment.
When assessing for reasonable adjustments, JCJ Assessment Services will always consider the following:
Our team of qualified professionals have extensive experience in organising and managing the processes involved in securing and delivering exam access arrangements. They are well-versed in the latest regulations and best practices and are able to assess and implement appropriate accommodations for SEND students, such as extra time, rest breaks, readers, scribes, or access to assistive technology. By outsourcing exam access arrangements, schools can ensure that SEND students receive the individualized support they need to participate in exams on an equal basis with their peers.
Meeting the legal requirements for accommodating SEND students during exams can be complex and time-consuming for schools. We are well-versed in the relevant legislation, regulations, and guidelines governing the provision of accommodations for students with special educational needs. We can assist schools in ensuring that exam arrangements are compliant with legal standards and that appropriate documentation is maintained to support the accommodations provided to SEND students. By utilising our services, schools can mitigate the risk of non-compliance and potential legal challenges related to the provision of accommodations for SEND students.
Applications for Exam Access Arrangements for both GCSE and GCE has now become a core and time-consuming part of a SENCO’s role. Coordinating exam access arrangements for SEND students requires significant administrative effort, including assessing individual needs, coordinating support services, communicating with students and parents, and making logistical arrangements. We streamline the process by providing comprehensive support, from initial assessment to implementation and monitoring of accommodations. By outsourcing these tasks, schools can reduce the administrative burden on their staff and ensure that exam access arrangements are efficiently managed and executed, allowing them to focus on supporting the academic and developmental needs of all students, including those with SEND.
JCJ Assessments will establish a good working relationship with your students, and key team members in your schools such as SENCo, SEND team members and the examinations officer.
Our team will complete specialist assessments using appropriate up-to-date, nationally standardised tests appropriate for the age of the candidate. For example:
Our team will work collaboratively with your SEND teams and school leaders to provide tailored support where and when it is needed. This includes supporting the completion of relevant forms and online applications for access arrangements.
